Yogis of /yoga/, today I joined the gym. Share some of the tips and advice related to exercise, food, etc.
>>5725 Determine what your physique is like currently and what your goal is. Have a good program and stick to it. Install a lift tracking app and keep entering all your sets/reps/weight every time you workout. Eat protein. Avoid junk food and snacks at all costs. If skinny fat, don't fall for the bulking or cutting meme. Do cardio. Focus on compound movements more than isolations. Make sure you progressive overload Learn proper form for all exercises especially compounds. Don't ego lift. Don't take trainer's advice on anything.
>>5726 Thanks for the advice. Btw I'm skinny fat( may be because of my calorie deficient diet and over exercising ,which I used to do in the past). >Focus on compound movements more than isolations I'll try after few weeks. >Don't take trainer's advice on anything. Then whom should I trust ? Which person/influencer did you follow?
>>5727 Wut? >>5729 Skinny fat happens when you're naturally skinny and you start eating a caloric surplus diet and stay inactive. Just eat healthy around your maintenance and keep doing cardio and lifting regularly. It'll automatically get fixed. If possible try tracking your measurements with a tape instead of your weight, weight is very unreliable. >I'll try after few weeks Can't you lift the empty barbell? >Then whom should I trust ? Which person/influencer did you follow? Watch Jeet Salal, Athleanx, Scott Herman, Jeremy Ethier. Alan Thrall for Bench Squat and Deadlift forms.
>>5730 Skinny fat can even develop when you do lot of cardio. It's a double edged sword. I used to be skinny person with flat tummy. After I started doing lot of exercises without proper guidance I developed pot belly, my hands and legs are still thin.
>>5731 Abey lodu, you can't get skinny fat magically without overfeeding yourself. Quit making excuses. If not doing proper exercises gives you a potbelly, then the majority of lundian gym goers will stay fat forever.
>>5732 Lodu, I'm not giving any excuses. I used to lot of cardio and I never did resistance exercises. That's the reason why I still have skinny hands and legs. >>5734 yaar i can (sadly) atest to this. only used to do cardio, legs got developed upper body was not in proportion or nearly as fit.
>>5734 Same happened with me anon. I did a cut and started cardio. I had no muscle at all to warrant a cut. I became skinny fat after that. After starting lifting and eating more protein I am not somewhat fit. I still have fat moobs, might be gyno.
>>5725 >Push/pull/legs split is good >Wow On a more important side note, I'd say that you should take your first few weeks to get more familiarized with the weights, form. Avoid heavy lifting (the 4 main lifts - ohp, dl, bench and squat) for now. Use machines as much as you can. Transition to free weights slowly.
>>5739 No. Main problem is not fat, it's lack of musculature. I had the same. I increased protein in diet and also stopped doing cardio, lifted weights instead. Helped me a ton.
>>5740 The problem of being skinny fat is both lack of muscles and fat. You need to do both cardio and strength training along with protein rich caloric maintenance diet to fix it. Only lifting weights while eating at a surplus will turn you into the average gymcel pajeet with a beer gut and huge ass arms.
>>5739 nooooo. cycling unironically hangs you at skinny fat. i was skinny fat and stayed skinny fat. builds muscles nowhere other than legs. t. 900km monthly with proper structured training except lifitng weights
