Do you think harem novels have potential in India? Chetan Bhagat etc are just as trashy so it's not like English reading Indian audiences would be too high brow for it. Only problem I can see is losing female demographic but the horny male demographic might make up for that.

I'm imagining a typical school setting, in some tier one city known for being multiculti. That way the girls can all be from different states(Tsundere can be a Punjoo/Haryanvi, quiet nerdy girl can be Bong/Tamil, elitist bitch can be some phoren return and so on) so you'll have tons of different festivals and food to put into the story.

> typical school setting
make it college and you are good to go. as most of the horny readers are from this age group.
btw where you will be posting? actually publishing? or some web novel kinda stuff?

College kind of dilutes emotions, a lot of the draw of harem is teenage drama. Plus if there's illustrations I'm sure even Indian school uniforms could be quiet cute.

Lol this is just an idea now, I might write something if I come up with a somewhat interesting plot. I'd like to make it a web thing initially at least to gauge reader reactions but I don't think there's too many Indian males on places like Wattpad. Publishing legitimately would probably mean no ecchi stuff and what's even the point of it then?

Not the same thing but I always was moderately skilled at writing so I used to write tons of erotica back in school. I was actually somewhat popular, whenever I'd write something new it'd get passed around class, xeroxed and given to the other sections and everything.

Some examples plz. If it works, you should open a fiver or patreon to get the motor going. For now, create content for 90 days nonstop. Post something daily, like some spicy or exciting bits from your work to Instagram (using a pen name of course) use hashtags which are relevant with what you posted. After that, gauge the audience reaction to the type of content then optimize accordingly

>digital marketing nigga here

Shout-outs are a thing of the past now. Current trends depend on the quality of content. Its true you can’t expand much without boosting your posts (cuz Facebook-Google duopoly runs the cybernet ad market) but for initial exposure you should consider posting daily on Instagram with hashtags like #adultsonly #sexy #morningsex but put the hashtags after the description so that they are out of sight cuz it’d look ugly. Facebook is too kid friendly so I’d suggest not investing yourself too much there. DM me and we can talk about it more. I’m building my own brand as well and only networking can help us with that.

Would full on erotica be popular? I was thinking more light romance/comedy stuff, just with relationship mechanics of harem. Hentai mangas are 50% sex scenes but in text it won't work that well, I think. There's only so many ways you can describe sex.

Plus you know then even teens would be part of the demographic.

From my experience and the time I spent in the market I can tell you positively that people will consume any kind of content if you pitch it right. Eroticas have existed for centuries, dude. What makes you think that it’ll die out just cuz we have visual or VR porn now and women are real suckers for eroticas (just take 50 shades series for example. Such a hit with women, books especially).

Even trash-tier authors like Chetan Bhagat included some suggestive scenes in their books. So believe me, sex sells itself but you can use it like a vehicle to make your brand stand out.

As far as harem genre goes, it uncommon in India and there’s a chance it will be the market disruptor. I’m not aware of the Indian erotica scene. So you tell me how common or uncommon is harem erotica or just a harem romance in Indian writing scene?

From what I've seen on Literotica, which is the only place with a substantial Indian English erotica community as far as I know, harem isn't something they have. Then again, even Western eroticas tend not to have harems. If it's aimed towards women, harem won't be too popular I imagine, the character insert is supposed to be male. Kiss Him not Me was a reversion of the trope but even that was only popular because it was meta.

Compared to harem or male oriented ecchi, shoujo is very unidimensional as far as the romantic interest goes. He has to be a tall, chiseled, rich, mysterious guy who is popular with the ladies but cares only for the reader insert.

That just kills the character development potential for the protagonist.

Why not write a romance or erotica with a female lead instead who has a harem of guys? Reverse-harem. Then again I’m no erotica expert but many women do fantasise of stringing along guys who are there just for her and emphasise on the romance more than sex. Cuz when targeting women, emotions play a huge role. It doesn’t what you’re selling, either a car or body razor, women focused marketing always go for the emotions of women.

Refer harems aren't that popular though, even in otomes that are popular, there is usually a number of beta orbiters that will treat her like a special snowflake but only one man(the chaddest of them all) that'll be romantically involved. Women are generally hypergamous, not polygamous like men are.

>So you tell me how common or uncommon is harem erotica or just a harem romance in Indian writing scene?
None.
The whole harem thing can only work out in a serialised form of media. That's why even hentai anime don't have much harem hijinks unless it's from Poro who make multiple episodes of the same title. Most of Indian serialised media is aimed at lonely neet housewife's mind and the male oriented ones are one off novels or films.

Great then. Now we know what’s not going to work with your audience? And now identify what will work with your audience. What’s high in demand and how can you make your content standout from others? That’s for you to figure out by posting content
